Dr. Syed Yasser Haider (MD, FRCSC, FRCS-Orth)

President, Director of Coordination

Dr. Syed Haider is a senior orthopaedic consultant surgeon at Markham-Stouffville Hospital in Toronto, Canada. He did his MD from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan. After completing his orthopaedic residency training at Royal London and St Bart’s in London, UK, he completed his orthopaedic fellowship with Intercollegiate Board of Royal Colleges in UK before moving to Canada. He is a visiting professor at several international medical institutions including King Edward Medical University and St George’s University.

Dr. Naveed Syed (PhD)

Director of Education, Research & Scientific Matters

Professor and Scientific Director of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. Served as a Department Head for Cell Biology and Anatomy for 10 years and was the Research Director for the Hotchkiss Brain Institute. In 2016, Dr. Syed was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence – the highest civilian award for research and innovation) from the Government of Pakistan.

Dr. Shabih U. Hasan (DCH, MBBS, MD)

Director of International Relations and Affairs

Dr. Shabih Hasan is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Calgary and a Neonatologist at Calgary Zone, Alberta Health Services. He is a graduate of Dow Medical College. He has a Diploma in Child Health from the National University of Ireland and specialization in Pediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Shagufta Tasveer Membership and Subsidiaries (MBBS, MRCOG, MSc)

Director of Constitution

Graduated with a MBBS in 1998 from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Masters in Gynae and Obs in 2003 from AMU. In 2008, she completed a MRCOG from the Royal college of Obs and Gynae, UK. Launched her own clinic known as “Frontline Family Practice” in Toronto, Ontario.

Dr. Farhat Ahmed (MBBS)

Director of Communications and Public Relations

Dr. Aftab currently serves as the Clinical Research Coordinator at the Stroke Research Program, Division of Neurology at the University of Alberta. Graduate of Sindh Medical College. Dr. Aftab has completed the NACTRC Study Coordinator Training Program as well as the NIH-IPPCR certification course from the NIH.

Dr. Mohamed Ali Peera (MD, CM, FRCPC)

Director of Finance

  • Emergency Physician at William Osler Health System.
  • Graduated, in medicine, from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
  • Specialized and completed his residency training from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA and McGill University,Montreal, Canada.
  • Fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC).
  • Director of Professional Guidance and Information.

Dr. Shabbir Kanjee (MBBS, DLO, MCPS, FCPS, CRA)

Director of Professional Guidance and Information

Working in Family Medicine and director at Kanjee Medical Skin Clinic. Graduated from University of Sindh. Completed fellowship in Otolaryngology from Dow Medical University. Served on the Medical Advisory Board at JCC. Committee Member for Senior Homes Project for Assisted Living. Involved in volunteer work at Muslim Welfare Canada. Foundational Member of IMI Canada.

Dr. Mansour Alvi (PhD, PEng, MD, FRCSC)

Director of Publication and Media

Orthopaedic surgeon focused on the surgical and non-surgical treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries. PhD in Engineering at the University of Toronto and his Medical degree from McMaster University. Completed specialty training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto. Received multiple awards - including the A.W. Harrison Resident Teaching Award, Department of Surgery, University of Toronto where he was Chief Resident during his Trauma Rotation at Sunnybrook Hospital.

Dr. Naushad Noorani (MD, FRCPC)

Dr. Noorani is a consultant Psychiatrist at William Osler Health System, Brampton Civic Hospital. He graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan. He specialized and completed his Residency Training from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. He is a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCP). He has served as the president of Imamia Medics International (IMI) Canada and a member of IMI’s Board of Regents. He is a foundational member of IMI Canada He is currently a member of IMI Headquarters Executive Committee.

Dr. Mohamed Jaffer Ali (MD)

MD from University of Ottawa. Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Board Eligible in Internal Medicine. Certified in Echocardiography by The American Society Of Echocardiography. Certified in Transesophageal Esophageal Echocardiography by The Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology. Academic, Research & Clinical Appointments at University of Toronto, University of Western Ontario, Queen’s University & Tufts New England Medical Centre in Boston, MA. At present works as an Anesthesiologist at York Central Hospital.

Dr. Mohsin Dhalla (MD)

Dr. Mohsin Dhalla graduated with an MD from Queens University in 2004. Dr. Dhalla practices Family Medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences and St Joseph’s Healthcare System in Hamilton, Ontario. Dr. Dhalla has served on the IMI Canada Board of Directors in the past.

Dr. Fatima Kamallia (MD, FRCP, FAAP)

Dr. Fatima Kamalia obtained her MD from Queens University Medical School. She then completed her Pediatric Residency at the Hospital for Sick Children through the University of Toronto. At present, she is co-owner of a private pediatric practice in Thornhill and she is also an attending staff at McKenzie Health Hospital, and affiliated with the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She works for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) as a Registration Examiner and a Peer Assessor and is an OSCE invigilator for third and fourth year pediatric residents at the Hospital for Sick Children. She recently joined Cleveland Clinic Canada as a Consultant Advisor for Pediatric Express Care.

Dr. Ahmed Naqvi (MBBS, DCH, MCPS (Pediatrics), MRCP)

Dr, Ahmed Naqvi is a pediatric hematologist and Oncologist, currently working at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Toronto. Dr. Naqvi is a graduate of Dow Medical College’s class of 1977. His areas of interest and research are pediatric leukemia, lymphoma, and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). He has served as Director of Pediatric residency program at Aga Khan University Karachi for eight years prior to moving to Canada. At SickKids he remained the Associate Director and Director for the University of Toronto’s pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship training program for almost 10 years.

Dr. Ather Bano (MBBS)

Dr. Ather Bano graduated from Fatima Jinnah Medical College in Lahore. She moved to Canada in 1993 and has since worked as an Anatomical Pathologist in various hospitals including: St. Joseph Health Center, Toronto, Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, and currently working at Scarborough Health Network (SHN) as a full-time permanent member of the Department of Pathology.

Amin Jagani (BPharm, RPh, MBA)

Amin Jagani is a clinical development and operations professional. His background allows for proficiency in many aspects. Most notably, global phase I-IV clinical trial planning and conduct, program management, strategic development, vendor collaboration and management, risk management, and leading the transition and implementation of infrastructure initiatives. He is currently an Oncology Researcher at PAREXEL.

Hasnain Akbar

Hasnain Akbar is a self-employed Entrepreneur for over 30 years. He has worked as an Owner Operator of multiple franchises and Private Schools over the years. His other roles have included Principal, Teacher, and a Trainer in the Education Field.

Fauzia Kara

Fauzia Kara was born in Dar-es Salaam, Tanzania and immigrated to Canada in 1974. She worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia from 1974 - 2008 in different departments, branches & capacities. Graduated from George Brown College with Certificates in Business & Human Resources Program. Through the Bank, she completed the Canadian Securities Courses & became a Licensed Financial Advisor. In 2002, before retiring she started her own travel consulting business & also took a Pastoral Service Course. She has over 18 years of experience working with NPOs.

Dr. Anjum Kanjee (MBBS)

Dr. Kanjee is a family physician with a special interest in Dermatology, practising in Richmond Hill, Ontario. She graduated from Dow Medical College and completed her fellowship in Dermatology from the same university. Dr. Kanjee completed her residency in family medicine at Sunny Brook Hospital. Currently she is affiliated with the University of Toronto as a clinical adjunct in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Dr. Akber Mithani (MD, MCFP (COE))

Dr. Akber Mithani is currently Regional Medical Director for Fraser Health and Clinical Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine, UBC. His expertise is in Long Term Care, and a robust experience with medical leadership. He received his medical doctor training at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, moved west and has devoted his career to the care of the elderly through geriatric psychiatry and medicine, residential care, and acute specialized geriatric programs.
